Walmart is about to beef up its store associate headcount in preparation for the holidays.

The mega retailer said it is planning to hire approximately 150,000 new U.S. store associates across the country. Most positions will be permanent, full-time jobs, it said, rather than seasonal positions. For current store associates who would like to pick up extra hours over the holiday season, the retailer will “continue to offer those opportunities.”

In contrast,  Target plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers to supplement its current team and will give five million more hours to current stores' associates over the holiday shopping season.

Walmart previously announced plans to hire 20,000 associates in its supply chain facilities to permanent roles.

“We’re always looking to add great talent to our incredible team of dedicated associates – the every day heroes who have been a constant force for good in their communities amidst the uncertainty of the past year,” said Julie Murphy, chief people officer – Walmart U.S. “Before we know it, millions of customers will count on our team to help find those great gifts and holiday meals, and we’ll be ready.”

Interested applicants can apply in-store, online or in the [email protected] app. Walmart said in many cases, it makes same-day job offers.
